Omgggg.
The DBP Society journey officially kicks off in five days. (That’s Tuesday, January 7, to be exact. On that day, I’ll send you your first official prompt.) Eeeeep!
As we get ready to dive into our writing, here’s a simple yet powerful question that taps into the thrill of this process:
What’s one thing about writing that excites you or makes you curious?
Is it the idea of telling stories, expressing emotions, learning new things about yourself, or simply having a creative outlet? I invite you to reflect on the why behind your writing and what you’re hoping to discover here.
This isn’t about what you don’t know or what feels hard — it’s about focusing on the curiosity and joy that drew you to writing in the first place. I want us to celebrate why writing matters to each of us and what we’re excited to explore as we embark on this adventure together.
I encourage you to answer this question in the comments below. Put it out there!
Or if you’d rather keep it personal, go ahead and put your words to paper.
Whatever you do, get it OUT in front of you.
And before you crack your creativity open, a few matters of biz:
SAVE THE DATE
Our first virtual open mic will be Thursday, January 30 at 9:30 a.m. MST.
Erin Hunt, author of Lovely Disaster, will be joining us at the top of that call for a frank discussion on her writing journey and her belief that there is room for EVERYONE to write a book. Stay tuned for full deets.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF
If you haven’t already, hop over to this thread and tell us why you’re here!
TAKE THE LEAP
While this community will have occasional free posts and public threads, the full experience (regular prompts, ongoing community, virtual open mics, opportunities for feedback, etc) will be paid. You can pay as you go at $20/month or jump in for the whole year, which would make it $16(ish) a month. You can opt out at any time.
Ready to jump in?!
NEED TO TAKE YOUR TIME?
You can also join the paid journey at any time. We’ll start off real gentle this month, and even though everything will stack and help you grow as you move along, it will also be crafted for you to hop in whenever.
SAY THE WORD
If money is a barrier but you really want to try this, send me a note. Let’s work something out. I really, really want you here.
Okey dokey, artichokey!
Can’t wait to read your answer to this week’s question:
I just love words. I've always loved books, and learning new words. They all for so much creativity in expression. That's what brought me to writing initially. In this season its return back to myself. I used to write and share publicly very regularly, but haven't in years. I've been feeling called to come back to it, interestingly I am also in a season of personal exploration and I know that writing will be a key in helping me to work through everything I am experiencing.
One thing I deeply appreciate (and sometimes loathe) about writing is the way it calls me to revisit moments of connection — those profound thoughts that arise, often unexpectedly, in conversation with someone else. When a thought feels meaningful, I sit down to write about it, as if I’m trying to save the essence of that moment, to freeze it in time, and maybe share it in the hopes it will resonate with others.
But writing has this way of humbling me. What felt effortless to speak can suddenly feel impossible to capture on the page. Writing is like a woman of great value. She demands your full attention, your focus, your patience. She expects you to show up with effort and intention if you hope to get close to her. And even then, sometimes she’ll make you work for it — as she should — reminding you that the beauty is in the process, not just the outcome.
