Lemme start with a confession: I’ve been sitting here in complete agony.

In between staring at the screen and yanking at my hair, I’ve been oscillating between typing + deleting and wiping my sweaty palms on my pajamas. I’ve been face-planting into the kitchen table and wondering if I should put my mouth guard back in because damn, my jaw is clenched.

Why?

Not only is starting something scary, but:

Writing anything can feel like pulling a piece of yourself out into the light. It’s vulnerable. It’s messy. And sometimes, it’s downright terrifying.

But here’s the thing: it’s also worth it.

You’re here because something inside you whispers, “Write.” Maybe you’ve ignored it before, doubted yourself, or told yourself it wasn’t the right time.

But you’re here now. And that’s what matters.

Yeah, so the “D” and “B” are blurry-edged. They ain’t perfect. But in the name of all that’s good and beautifully messy, we’re rollin’ with it. DBP, baby!

The DBP Society is a space to honor that whisper — to trust that your story, your words, your voice — are worth sharing. Not when it’s perfect. Not someday. Now.

Together, we’re going to take that scary step from overthinking to doing.

And just why are we going to do this???

WHY WRITE?

Because words have power. They have the ability to connect us, to show us that we’re not alone, and to shape how we see the world and ourselves. Every story shared is an opportunity to spark a conversation, to inspire someone else, or to simply say, “This is me. I’m here.”

And maybe, just maybe, your story is the one someone else has been waiting to hear.

The world can feel noisy, overwhelming, and full of perfectionism, but the stories that matter most are the ones that are raw, real, and true. Your voice has a unique perspective, and when you let it out, you make space for others to do the same.

It’s worth it because your words are a piece of you that should no longer be tucked away. They deserve to exist…to breathe…to FLY…

Writing matters because it’s an act of courage and a gift to yourself. It’s worth it for the clarity it brings, the growth it gives, and the moments of discovery that come from spilling your thoughts onto the page.

And it’s worth it for the connections it creates with yourself, your readers, and the wider world. When you share your words, you invite others to see a piece of themselves in what you’ve written.

But most of all, it’s worth it because it’s yours and only yours. No one else can write what you can.

THE FORMAT

The DBP Society is designed to meet you where you are, whether you’re writing for yourself, for others, or a future mix of both.

Perhaps you’re here because you want to write stories about your life just for yourself or explore the art of writing for the very first time. Maybe you’ve been dying to write a book but you’re swimming in self-doubt and have NO idea where to start. Or maybe you’re in the motion of the book thang, but community is something you’re craving. OR! Perhaps you’ve already written the book, but it’s been collecting dust for months and you want to bring each hidden chapter back to life and get some feedback.

Wherever you are, THIS is the space to discover your rhythm, experiment, and most importantly, write.

January: Getting in Motion

We’ll start slow and easy. January will be all about getting comfortable with the DBP concept: Done is Better than Perfect. It will also be about getting genuinely connected with one another.

Every Tuesday — starting Jan. 7, I’ll send you a mini prompt that’ll take 10 minutes tops. Something that will help you build your writing muscles and, most of all, be okay with leaving it done.

While the goal is not to wallow or simmer too long over the nudge and to just get it OUT, you’ll have the whole week to share it with the group. (If you want to!)

We’ll see how private group chats and paywalled comments go on here for the community piece, but if it comes to it, I might start a Facebook group as well.

February and March: Stepping It Up

As we get into February and March, we’ll dig deeper. These months will focus on:

• Starting your own Substack (even if it’s just for yourself to start — no pressure to share it widely).

• Creating a rough outline to follow.

• Meeting bi-weekly writing deadlines to build consistency.

• Sharing progress and stories with the group for encouragement and accountability.

We’ll also have virtual open mics at the end of each month. (Should we call them Speakeasies?!?! Get it?!) Here, you can read what you’ve written if you’re ready, share any general wins or AHAs, and cheer others on. At the top of these calls, we’ll also have a guest author/creator share their own DBP moments or advice. (Erin Hunt, author of Lovely Disaster, is already on the docket!!)

WHAT YOU’LL WRITE

To start, if you’re here for total direction, you’ll write stories about yourself. Maybe you’ll keep these stories just for you, and by the end of 2025, you’ll have at least 20 of ‘em. Maybe they’ll grow into a Substack. Or perhaps they’ll spark something bigger, like a “how-to” book or the beginnings of a memoir.

For now, though, my goal is simple: get you into a rhythm of writing and get you connected with fellow writers. Let’s start by doing the work, building confidence, and linking arms with our new friends.

THE PERKS

As a free subscriber, you’ll have access to occasional public posts and chats.

As a paid subscriber, for $20/month or $200/year (which is $16ish a month), you’ll:

(For example, if you do all the exercises in January, your name will be thrown into a hat for complimentary feedback on one of your February pieces.)

This is just the start, and I can’t wait to see how the first three months go. We’ll refine and adjust based on how everyone feels, but the heart of it all is this:

Who’s the lady behind DBP?

Whether we’ve known each other forever or this our first handshake, it’s important that I introduce (or re-introduce) myself and share WHY I’m passionate about this stuff.

So, I’m Brit. Okay, who are we kidding? Get in here for a hug!

I’m a Colorado native, mama, writing coach, author, speaker, and event producer whose been churning words, creating experiences, and gathering people together since childhood.

THIS was a list of requested spelling words I gave my teacher in first grade. I’ve always loved words.

And THIS was one of the many slumber parties in my basement that entailed dressing up, making up dance routines, and videotaping talk shows.

I’ve worked with hundreds of businesses on their marketing, copywriting, events, and customer service. I’ve mentored thousands of individuals with their writing, blogs, and personal and professional goals. I’ve spoken to countless mom groups on self-care, held productivity workshops at places like lululemon, E:ON Energy, and KPMG, and even spoken at Visa on the topic of vulnerability.

In 2023, I self-published Mama Be Present: 40 Simple Yet Magical Ways to Find Joy in The Toddler Days, and since my experiential dinner party of a book launch with 100 ladies, I’ve been helping other women write and publish books as well as hosting and emceeing an annual event called Moms on the Mic.

Although my 22-year career has been a winding journey with many destinations — music venues, magazines, newspapers, websites, startups, flower shops, golf courses, and more — it’s all been centered around one theme: connection.

I connect words.
I connect ideas.
I connect people.
I connect moments.

Most of all, I connect others to their own courage.

Through writing, online journeys, deep convos over coffee, workshops, and events, I create spaces where people feel inspired to show up authentically and step into who they really are. I nudge them to do that thing they’ve always wanted to do.

Whether it’s speaking to an audience for the first time, writing a book, saying “yes” to an introduction, starting a newsletter, going six months without drinking, trying open mic, sharing a long-hidden story, breaking all the rules of marketing, or even attending something solo, nothing lights me up more than watching others take a chance and discover what they’re capable of.

And why exactly is that? Why am I obsessed with all things spontaneous, adventurous, and downright courageous?

Because I know how it feels to take a leap of faith or finally do the thing I’ve always wanted to do.

And I’m not talking about the happiness or sense of “completeness” we often think will solve everything. I’m talking about the growth, the lightness, and the ALIVE-ness it brings. I’m talking about the hunger it creates to live life right now and the way it brings us closer to others, to ourselves, and something BIGGER than ourselves.

Because here’s the thing: the kind of success that has ever sustained me has had nothing to do with numbers and money and everything to do with real connection, inner growth, and eye-widening “Godwinks.”

But those beautiful benchmarks have NEVER come easy, boy.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the greatest things in life often don’t appear obvious at first. They present themselves as curveballs, flaws, tragedies, and mistakes, but every time I look back on ANY dark time, I see shiny silver linings. When I dig up the roots of ALL the best things in my life, I find that they all trace back to trauma.

As a survivor of sexual assault, someone who has battled anxiety, depression, burnout, infertility, and a two-year adoption process full of setbacks, I know shame, pain, and silence all too well.

But without all that pain, waiting, and uncertainty, would I be so passionate about helping others embrace challenges, take risks, and unapologetically be who they REALLY are? Without all those years of feeling so alone, would I be as vulnerable as I am? Would I hope so deeply for someone to see themselves in my raw thoughts and stories? Or for them to feel truly welcome at my events? Would my heart be as resilient? Would my eyes see beauty in all kinds of unexpected, overlooked things?

Without all I’ve been through, I wouldn’t be who I am today. I firmly believe that everything is connected. Everything.

I also believe that at the very moment I write this and the very moment you read this, something GOOD is at work for each of us. We can’t see it, smell it, or perhaps even begin to believe it, but I want you to know that I wholeheartedly trust it.

And if you stick around (AKA join The DBP Society), my hope is that you’ll see that YOU are more capable than you think and that YOUR story matters.
